Quebec outdoor retailer La Cordée closes after over 70 years in business

After closing several stores, Quebec-based outdoor retailer La Cordée is shutting its doors for good.

In a message to customers posted Wednesday on its website, La Cordée announced that it will officially cease operations in the coming weeks.

The retailer had filed for protection under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act earlier this summer. It had also closed two stores: the one in Laval and the one located in downtown Montreal.

Three stores remained open: the one on Saint-Laurent Boulevard in Montreal, La Vie Sportive in Quebec City, and the Saint-Hubert location on Montreal’s South Shore.

La Cordée was founded in 1953 as a Boy Scouts cooperative. It gradually established itself as a specialist in outdoor activities, camping, as well as cycling and cross-country skiing.

In its online message, the retailer states that “until we close, our teams will remain on hand to advise and serve you with the same commitment that has always driven us.”
