The OPUS card is now available digitally to Montreal transit users with Android devices.
The regional transit planning agency for the greater Montreal area, known as the ARTM, has been testing this new virtual offering since late 2025.
There were 20,000 people who tested the system before its wider release via the Chrono app, which all smartphone users can use to purchase and validate tickets.
The new virtual offering is part of a $146-million Concerto project that aims to modernize payment options for transit users.
Testing is still underway for iPhone users to be able to have virtual OPUS cards on their devices.
Physical OPUS cards will remain available for those who do not have a smartphone.
The plan is to eventually also allow transit users to pay with a bank card instead of an OPUS card.
Testing on that development has not yet started.
