Unionized workers at more than 20 hotels will walk off the job for 24 hours to protest stalled contract talks, the CSN announced on Thursday.
A total of 2,600 employees working at 23 hotels in the Montreal area, Quebec City and Sherbrooke will take part in the strike. While the CSN represents about 3,500 workers in the hotel sector, only those employed at 23 hotels are in a legal position to strike.
On July 28, about 1,000 workers employed at the Queen Elizabeth, Chateau Champlain and Bonaventure hotels in Montreal walked off the job for 24 hours, a move which saw three of the hotels lock out their employees until the next morning.
On Aug. 1, a 24-hour walk-out was held by 400 workers at the Gouverneur Place Dupuis and Hilton DoubleTree hotels in Montreal.
The workers are seeking a 36 per cent pay hike over four years, three weeks of vacation after the first year of service, management contribution to a group insurance plan and improved training.
