Marwah Rizqy shares why she’s leaving politics | The Corner Booth

For Quebec MNA Marwah Rizqy, the decision to leave politics wasn’t easy. But in many ways, it was simple.

“For me, this is it. I gave everything to politics and I love what I’m doing. But I just love, more, my kids,” she told hosts Aaron Rand and Bill Brownstein in this latest episode of The Corner Booth.

Rizqy, the member for Saint-Laurent, was joined this episode by her husband and colleague Greg Kelley, the MNA representing Jacques-Cartier.

“I did say that if you want to continue in politics, if you want to stay, I’ll stay home, I’ll find something to do in Montreal. I wanted to support her — Marwah could be the premier of Quebec, I believe that. She could be the leader of our party, I know that,” Kelley said.

But Rizqy “knew in [her] heart” that what she wanted most was to be with her two young sons and to give them a childhood that she never had.

“My mother never had a chance to go to school, so she gave me everything that she could. But on the other hand, my father was very violent. So for me, I just knew that one day I would like to create my own family. A family with no disputes, where no one’s going to raise their hand [at] the kids, or no one’s going to raise their voice in my house. And now that I have that, I cherish it so much. So this is, for me, my number one priority.”
